Why Minnesota?

Minnesota's rich soils and vast open areas are a perfect location to grow coconuts. These are not the ordinary coconuts you may be thinking of however.  Because of the harsh winters and shorter growing seasons, scientists have produced a variant species of the coconut.

Coconuts, or (Cocos nucifera), is the common coconut of which we are all familiar, but this variation is called (Cocos borealias nucifera).  This species was developed  by  cross-breeding genes from trees common to Minnesota to allow it to survive the winters.  Because of these adaptations, the seeds (the actual coconuts) are somewhat smaller, but the taste is actually enhanced.  The soil in Minnesota is rich  in nutritional value to produce great tasting coconuts.

Although some Coconut farmers still grow coconuts outdoors, some have taken a more advanced approach.  Growing chambers, as they are called, are special hyperbolic devices where temperature, humidity, and natural lighting are controlled with advanced computer systems twenty-four hours a day.  Although more costly,  this method of growing actually produces a greater size and more yield per tree.
