The ability to defend against microbes is enhanced by a healthy body; and the ability to defend against microbes is compromised when the resistance mechanisms are malfunctioning. Homeostasis is defined as body equilibrium or cellular balance. It is very important that the individual provide mutrients and other factors to the cells so the organs function properly.
Temperature is one factor that must be maintained for healthy cells. By perspiring (glowing for females) and dilation of blood vessels, the body temperature is kept from going to high. Likewise, constriction of blood vessels, shivering and goosebumps tend to maintain a warm body temperature. Receptors in the skin must pick up changes in temperature and relay messages to brain.
Other nerve receptors in the carotid arteries are sensitive to carbon dioxide levels. Through the stimulation of the diaphragm and aerobic exercise, our body maintains the needed oxygen level in our blood. You should also avoid environmental hazzards that could damage the inner services of your lungs. Through proper intake of fluids and healthy kidney functioning, our water balance and elctrolyte balance is maintained. A healthy liver will remove toxic substances and maintain the pH needed for cell activity and defense against microbes. Blood sugar levels that are needed for energy production requires healthy cell membranes and pancreas. The pancreas controls the blood sugar level by producing hormones including insulin that regulate the release of sugars from the starches stored in the liver.
